D23 Recap: Marvel presents Phase Two

Disney rounded off a solid second day at D23 in Anaheim, CA with the presentations from Marvel Studios. The films focused on were Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

SDCC: Captain America fights the post-Avengers world

Captain America: The Winter Soldier seems to be the first Phase Two movie that will actually acknowledge the post-Avengers world. Comic-Con revealed that Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) fights alongside Captain America (Chris Evans) while he struggles with adjusting to the modern world.

Teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Just in time for Comic-Con this month, they have released the first teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Looks pretty cool to me. Basic but not bad.

Rumor has it that we have the female lead for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Emily VanCamp (Revenge) has apparently landed the role which is rumored to be Sharon Carter, an occasional girlfriend of Captain America. This is still unconfirmed, but I don't doubt this is true.

Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter, confirmed she will not be returning for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Rumors of a new female lead that will likely be Peggy's younger sister Sharon have been swirling around. Nick Fury won't return to Marvel until 2014

Samuel L. Jackson announced that his Marvel character Nick Fury won't be seen again until 2014 for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He mentioned that Fury or any other Avengers character won't appear in Iron Man 3 and added that he won't appear in Thor: The Dark World. It is possible he will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy in between Captain America 2 and The Avengers 2.

I mentioned not too long ago that Frank Grillo (Warrior) was in the casting process for an unknown villain role for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We now have confirmation that Grillo will be playing the role of Crossbones in the 2014 sequel.

Captain America 2 to start filming in March 2013

According to Chris Evans, filming for Captain America: The Winter Soldier will begin in March 2013. The film is slated for release on April 4, 2014 so getting an early start definitely won't hurt anyone. Captain America: The First Avenger had a 13-month production as well so they might figure whatever worked the first time will work again.
